This course provides a comprehensive program for
Personal Protection IN the Home (PPItH).
This 8-hour instructional experience is tailored to YOU, the
citizen-shooter. You will receive the
basic knowledge, skills and attitudes essential to safely and efficiently use
protection tools, including a handgun, for protection of self and family in
an at-home environment.
In the second section, the newest Personal
Protection OUTSIDE the Home (PPOtH) program is discussed.
Personal
Protection IN the Home (PPItH)
Requirements: 8
hours; 6 attendees minimum ~ Pre-requisite: NRA Basic Pistol Course
This course covers six major topic areas. After
successfully completing this program of instruction, you will be much better
informed and skilled in the use of a variety of techniques to either remove
yourself from a threatening situation and/or to neutralize that threat to
self and family. While the emphasis in this course is IN THE HOME, many of the techniques taught are applicable
to other situations.
TOPICS: the following major topic areas are covered in the course with
additional take-home shooting drills available to improve on your new skills:
I. Introduction
to Defensive Shooting – ethics and
responsibility, proper mindset, mental awareness, preparation and physical
training are covered.
II. Basic
Defensive Handgun Skills – defensive
marksmanship, accuracy-of-shot, center-of-mass & aiming points, and cover
& concealment are taught along with range firing to reinforce these
topics.
III. Firearms
& the Law/Use Deadly Force – the law on purchase,
transfer, possession, use of deadly force, potential criminal & civil
proceedings, and sources of legal advice are included in this lesson.
IV. Strategies
for Home Safety & Response – preparing for and
responding to potentially life-threatening encounters at home, mental
preparation for the aftermath of a violent confrontation along with how to safely
store personal protection devices and firearms.
V. Firearm
Selection for Self-Defense – identify criteria for
selecting a handgun and ammunition with emphasis on live-fire practice - this is a shooting exercise.
VI. Sport
Shooting Activities & Training Opportunities – a wide resource base is provided to each attendee along with
several at-home, dry-fire exercises that can and should be practiced
regularly.

Personal
Protection OUTSIDE the Home (PPOtH)
Requirements: 14
hours; 6 attendees minimum ~ Pre-requisite: PPItH Course (see above)
This course covers eight major topic
areas. The course goal here is to develop in you the knowledge, skills
& attitudes essential to avoid dangerous confrontations and for the safe,
effective, and responsible use of a concealed handgun for self-defense outside
the home.
TOPICS: the following major topic areas are covered in the course with
additional take-home shooting drills available to improve on your new skills:
I. Introduction
to Concealed Carry Safety & Mindset – ethics, responsibility, proper mindset, mental awareness,
preparation & physical training along with special concealed carry
techniques are covered.
II. Self-defense
& Concealed Carry Skills – life-threatening
encounters and how to avoid them, responding to a violent encounter,
emotion/legal/social aftermath of a defensive shooting encounter.
III. Legal
Aspects of Concealed Carry & Self-defense – your federal & state rights & restrictions, potential
civil & legal consequences, where to find more information are covered in
this lesson.
IV. Carry Modes
& Concealment – various handgun concealed carry modes
and their respective benefits & limitations, and principles of handgun
concealment outside the home are covered here.
V. Presenting the
Handgun from Concealment – explain &
demonstrate the technique for safely presenting a concealed handgun and re-holstering
- this is a shooting exercise.
VI. Presentation,
Position, & Movement – you will learn &
practice moving to various barricades and engaging multiple targets from
various shooting positions and handholds.
VII. Special
Shooting Techniques – hip-shooting, rearward
movement, standing, kneeling, turning in both directions, extended range
shooting, and low-light conditions will be taught & practiced.
VIII. Additional
Shooting & Training Available – a wide resource base is
provided to each attendee along with several at-home holstering & dry-fire
